Sensory Processing Disorder has been classified as being on the 'spectrum.' That is, it falls along the continuum of disorders such as Autism, Asperger's Syndrome, and Pervasive Development Disorder and others. Because many disorders share characteristics and for some, are just shades away from another disorder, Autism is referred to as a Spectrum Disorder with other disorders falling somewhere along that path.
Many times you will see Sensory Processing Disorder (SPD) information lumped in with Autism information and for that reason, we've given Autism its own space on this site.
Although most Autism researchers will state that we have not found a cure for it, there are many who are seeing the patterns that exist in children with Autism and by extension, Sensory Processing Disorder.
Vaccinations. Many people believe that the preservative thimerasol that is added to immunisations, such as the MMR, and contains mercury and that with that exposure (or repeated exposure with every cycle of injections) comes toxicity due to metal poisoning. Metal poisoning would gravely impact the health of any person. In fact, some go so far as to say that mercury poisoning and autism are virtually identical, symptomatically.

Auditory Processing
Auditory processing is a term used to describe what happens when your brain recognizes and interprets the sounds around you. Humans hear when energy that we recognize as sound travels through the ear and is changed into electrical information that can be interpreted by the brain. The "disorder" part of auditory processing disorder means that something is adversely affecting the processing or interpretation of the information. Sensory children often have issues with Auditory Processing.
Visual Processing
Visual processing disorders, which are NOT related to the ability to see clearly, involve difficulties understanding visual information such as movement, spatial relationships, form, or direction. Visual processing disorders, together with auditory processing disorders, frequently result in dyslexia or academic delays.
